Good bye naps and hello Spring (3yrs 3 months & 7 months)

The word "busy" keeps evolving into a whole new form. What did we do with all of our time before? Why did we think we needed sleep? I feel like the cat in the hat, balancing all kinds of things on my head, arms and tail all while balancing on a ball. Isaac is on a roller coaster speeding through his infancy becoming more social, alert and (of course) sleeping less. Silas is becoming more and more emotionally competent and thus more complex to understand and negotiate. Oh yeah, and he has stopped napping (mostly, unless the carseat captures him). I am also positive time has hit light speed.

Lets start with the youngest of my littles this go round since he has SO much changing in such an obvious way. My sweet baby Isaac is fighting HARD to run. If we lived on a savannah with nothing but a teepee and fire, he would survive it all. Since we last spoke he has not only begun crawling, he has also begun pulling himself up on everything ( I think 1 month ahead of his brother on this physical milestone) and has also started eating every solid food we hand him. He eats like animal from the muppets. Most of it goes everywhere but his mouth. He just seems to adore the act of eating and being a part of it all.  My heart is swelling and breaking all at once. Stop baby!! Just stay my baby for a few more months PLEASE!! At least the teeth haven't appeared yet.

Cloth diapers rock Isaac's socks off!

seriously??

This is how we get our base wide enough to sit

(Thanks Veronica for the caption =) )
Isaac's entry into this world made it very clear he was ready to be a part of this life and despite his calm demeanor, he is on fire. He is growing so fast and has such a different trajectory than his older brother that I have a few comparison photos of the boys wearing the same clothes.

Now, on to Silas. The beginning of 3 years old has been an explosion in emotional comprehension and conceptual understanding for this boy. He is deep into his imagination and differentiating between it and reality. He often makes statements about wanting to fly, but he doesn't have wings and that he needs a helicopter. Something along those lines.
Pensive…intense…talking about Spider Man.
We laugh and talk about all of the funny things Silas does through out the day and the conclusions he draws. This age breeds fantastic skills in observation. Unencumbered by judgment or a thorough understanding of humor, it's very literal and thus honest. A lot of our conversations happen outside. Every day I take the boys on a walk along the rail road tracks and onto a trail along the river. They seem to love it and it gets us out and exploring for a while before lunch.

Babies, babies, babies!! So many babies have been born amongst our friends in the last few months. A monumental one happened on March 7th and her name is Clara Jane Bamford!!!! Born at 7:48 am weighing 7lb 3.5oz and measuring 20.5 inches long. She is absolutely perfect and beautiful. This little angel took her mommy and daddy for a ride at the hospital, but Jane, like the warrior princess she is, birthed that baby and has transformed into the most amazing mother. Rob, of course, is awesome blossom as a daddy and took care of his sweety through it all.

We stayed at a hotel since we decided we had to come visit the new family within a week of her birth. The boys loved it.

We also stayed with my grad friends in Johnson City TN for a weekend and were able to meet baby Atlas!! He is so handsome and chill. The time was far too short for being with girls I now consider family. Andrew and Michael (Brittany's husband) entertained Silas quite a bit and showed him how to play a few video games. Of course video games to a 3 year old is randomly hitting buttons on a remote control and equating that to things happening on the screen.

Finally, I was able to catch up with an old friend who I had not seen in 7 years and it was as if that time meant nothing. Meghan was my best friend during my undergrad and now has one of the cutest baby boy's I have ever seen. Elijah is only a few weeks older than Isaac and those two were peas in a pod.

We did actually survive all of that travel with those two boys and made it back to West Virginia in one piece. Now that the weather has warmed up, and Isaac is a little older, we took the whole family on their first camping trip together. Silas and Andrew went camping together a few weeks earlier, but this was Isaac's first time camping and it actually went amazing. The only snafoo was that Silas really needed his own sleeping bag. We just had not realized how big he had become! Is he really 3 years old?! Isaac slept like a champ and they both loved the bike ride to and from our camp site. The Greenbrier River Trail is a beautiful, flat bike ride right along the river.

Si and Andrew camp trip!

Finally, we made a run to Virginia Beach for a weekend in April and met up with my mom and grandmother. Again, this was Isaac's first trip to the beach. It was too windy and a little chilly to let him feel the sand, but the beach was beautiful and the ocean brings on a calm inside that one carries with them for some time after leaving it behind.

And of course, I have a surplus of photo's that deserve attention, but have no story. So here ya go and I hope as we enter summer that everyone is slathered in sun screen, bug lotion and smiles!

Silas put on this baby doll and then
