Do you wanna build a snowman? (3 yrs old and 5 months old)

Its cold! Really cold…and wet…and icy. Good thing I'm an introvert or I think I would be half past nuts right about now. I'm getting there. There isn't a lot of outdoor time with a baby and a 3 year old when its this cold and snowy. That's right, I said it, 3!!! He crossed that line since we last spoke. I can't believe it either. My sweet first baby is three   years   old! He made me a mamma and I adore him SO much for it.

Si left, Isaac right

The night Si turned 3.
He had a quiet yet fun birthday. Next year I'm sure will be much more busy. This year it was just us and I really liked it being that way one last time. We took him to Pipestem and stayed the night in a hotel room so he would have access to their pool as much as his little heart desired. He and Andrew swam that evening and in the morning.
First dip as a 3 yr old =)
Once we got home, we gave si his cake and what he had asked for his birthday, a green skateboard. I know, you are thinking, one gift? But why do we need to give our kids or ourselves ten bazillion gifts on certain days of the year?  Honestly, he receives so many gifts from other people it doesn't matter. It just seems extravagant and excessive to dump all of these presents on our children and build up all of this expectation and self absorbed obsession over material things we want.  We buy things as we need them and keep the surprises small and sweet.
Don't worry, we will pad him
up when he really gets into it.

February 2013, 2014 & 2015
Speaking of growing, Isaac is no slouch in that department. The first six months with Silas seemed to last so much longer. I suppose the first born learning curve is a steep and thick one. We didn't have to redefine ourselves with this little one. He needs to stop growing actually. Its happening all too fast. Isaac seemed born ready for his existence. At our four month wellness visit he weighed 15lbs and measured 25 inches long. Silas went for his three year wellness visit at the same time and weighed 27lbs and measured 3ft 1inch. Both are so healthy and vaccines seem so smooth now, especially since I nurse isaac while they administer them. The only issue isaac has, which isn't an issue at all as far he is concerned, is the very mild case of eczema on his cheeks and chin that has been present since he was around 6 weeks old. I'm sure he will out grow this, but in the mean time I have cut back on eating so much dairy since that is likely to exacerbate the issue. Topically, I am applying unrefined coconut oil to moisturize and lanolin to water proof and protect. It seems to really be helping.

doh!
Our littlest bean is rolling now and scooting around on his tummy in preparation for crawling. Developmentally on almost the exact same timeline as Silas was at this age. However, unlike Silas who rolled with reckless abandon, Isaac does not really care for it. He continues practicing a modification of boat pose, building his back and neck muscles. I'm pretty sure he will just leap up and start crawling the minute he feels fully charged from this practice.

We are in full blown teething mode right now too. Drooling, chewing, a wee bit fussy right before going to sleep, but all in all, a very good disposition considering an achey mouth. Isaac's favorite chew toy right now? the edge of my ice water glass! But most any object will do. Exploratory breastfeeding has begun as well! I have a new dentist checking my teeth these days along with all other parts of my face. I seriously need a dedicated nursing necklace to keep this kid occupied.

You better believe I've had this kid on his little potty to save diapers!! I started having him pee in a sink ( I cleaned it I promise and urine is practically sterile…so don't give me that look…I already know what level of crazy I am on) around 3.5 months old. He is plenty big to sit on our littlest potty now with my assistance of course. He is very used to peeing and even sometimes we get a toot in there too! He definitely prefers going potty in his little pot. Our morning routine is to take off our wet night time diaper, sit on our potty and he will pee like he has been holding it half the night! Some of this has to do with the fact that he LOVES his sleep. As Andrew puts it, he goes nuclear if I have to change a diaper in the middle of the night. He scrunches up his little face, refuses to open his eyes, his cheeks turn red and his mouth forms into angry baby cry, yet a noise is not uttered for the first thirty seconds as if he can only muster a silent scream he is so mad that I dared to do this to him. To top it off, he likes to wet the diaper I put on him while in this state, so I've learned to cuddle him, hang him over his potty and get him to pee, then all while holding him, some how slipping a fitted and cover on his butt without evoking the wrath of sleepy Isaac.
Once we got passed all of the holidays we started to come out of our shell and visited a few friends. First we went to see Brittany and Michael Robbins right before their first son was born in the middle of January. Brittany is a part of a group of friends I made in graduate school that have become my sisters. Meaning I already LOVE their baby. Visiting them was so easy and fun. I love a good baby bump and she had a perfect baby belly!! They were in that surreal moment right before baby is born. Such an intense, exciting moment. Little Atlas was finally born earth side January 28th just as perfect as they come.

love
We also went to see Austin, Brittany and Clara while attending Rob and Jane's baby shower!!!! Yes!! another amazing baby on the way!! They are having a sweet baby girl sometime in the beginning of March. I am beside myself I am so excited. There are so many boys in this household, I am counting on my brother and sister-in-law to supply me with girl time. It was a quick trip, but so worth it.

It is obvious we are a baby wearing family. It makes going anywhere or doing anything SO much easier for care taker and baby. I am wearing isaac as I type this! Traveling with the new little one has been made vastly easier by our new soft structured carrier (SSC) which I am in love with. I adore my wrap, however it is a bit of a hassle if you are trying to do anything fast or if baby needs to be taken in and out. The SSC is fast, comfy and easy to nurse in. We now have the perfect arrangement of baby carriers  for our family.
Best wrap ever! Didymos Day Owls

baby wearing daddy's are the best!!
We've done a lot of other things since we last spoke, but I can't reach back into the gapping holes of my baby brain to remember. So I will just saturate you with pictures. I hope your winter is cozy and full of delicious hot beverages! Until next time…
