It's official, Silas is 1 year old and a toddler. He can walk like a champ now, babbles all the time in a conversational manner and laughs hysterically....for reasons we don't understand sometimes. He has also developed a sense of control in his life and wants to make decisions for himself. We are working very hard at recognizing this fact and not assuming most of what he does is without meaning. This actually has helped in the potty department. We had recently hit a lull in the use of his potty because he would no longer simply go because the timing was right. How do you ask a 1 year old if they need to go potty?! We tried that....to no avail. He did take off his poopy diaper twice. After the fact isn't really the end game though. We noticed he would start playing with the seat to his potty from time to time. So we started putting him on his potty when he did this. Would you believe it, most of the time he will go!! So the experiment continues...

On a less dirty note, we went to Disney world for the holidays and it was a great vacation.

Silas's Bday night we all went out to the Rainforest Cafe and they served him the most ridiculous dessert! Don't worry, I made him a much healthier apple crisp with no processed sugar or butter that he could dive into at home.

Since our little man is a little older, we decided to bring the mattress from the crib into our bedroom. We have started laying him down there at the beginning of the night. When he wakes up and fusses, I just pull him into bed with us. Being that we (the universal we) are social creatures and Si is still breastfeeding (yay!!), it seems we have to be taught to sleep in our own space and not cuddled up with someone else. I personally never liked sleeping alone and have had a fuzzy pet cuddled up with me since I can remember. So a family bed never phased me. Silas is at a good age though, where this transition will be less startling and we can gradually do it as he reduces his nursing sessions.
We love having this little man in our lives! He really is amazing. We hope you all had happy holidays!
