The Week of Daddy!

I started teaching classes this last week, so Andrew took over the little man for about 5 hours each day, Tuesday through Thursday. It was an extremely difficult week for me emotionally. Silas on the other hand seemed to fair pretty well. Its a steep learning curve figuring out how to drink out of a sippy cup, but Andrew says its improving. Silas thinks its fun to chew on and spit the milk everywhere!

My brother married his high school sweetheart this weekend after a short 9 1/2 year courting period.

Needless to say it was stunning! We had a great time and got to see lots of family.

It was a bit of a juggling act with Silas at night since he goes to bed at 7pm! Andrew and I exchanged who hung with the baby and brought each other food and drinks. So it all worked out. He loved the four star treatment of Hotel Roanoke.

On Sunday we said goodbye to the bride and groom and went to Smith Mountain Lake for the day. It was a perfect day and Silas had his first ride on SML...well...nap.

4 Month old Check Up

Our little love went for his four month old check up yesterday afternoon. He gave all the ladies smiles and even showed them how he could roll from one side to the other. He also made sure to lay on his tummy and put as much of the paper on the doctor's table in his mouth as possible.

Drum Roll Please......... and the boy weighs....................

14 lbs 8 oz !!!!!!

We have doubled our birth weight as a perfect four month old should!!

We all know we don't want a re-occurance of Polio, but if we could avoid those vaccines we would!! Silas actually managed the shots themselves MUCH better this time. It wasn't until about 2am that the little fever kicked in from all of that instigation of his immune system.  He had a hard time sleeping last night and this morning was a mix of emotions. Once we got some Advil on board he was good to go. Note to self: pre-game a freshly vaccinated baby with Advil if at all possible!

Developmentally, Silas is doing great. He turns his head every direction he can and has started holding himself up a little bit when placed in seats so we pulled out the Bumbo seat, donated kindly by our friend Kelly!

He enjoyed it even though he couldn't maintain himself entirely upright. Practice makes perfect.

4 months old!!

Silas is four months young and looking beautiful!!

Apparently this is the time of mental growth spurts. While he gets to enjoy a whole new vision of the world unfolding before him we get to deal with the arduous task of making sure he eats and sleeps enough. Naps are now typically 20 minutes long most of the time, eating is for a few minutes at a time with frequent stops to smile at a fan or light or because someone dared to speak. We are excited for what all of this growth means for him!!

It has been one hell of a week for this household! I was offered admission to NC State's Veterinary school...finally....after YEARS of applications, work, education, and volunteering. They gave us 48 hours to decide. How kind of them. So Andrew and I in our classic style said carpe diem!!!! To hell with everything else!
We quit our PhD programs, Andrew placed a resignation for his job and we began looking at housing and jobs in Raleigh....all in a 48 hour period. As the dust was settling and our stress levels becoming abundantly clear, we realized as exciting as the prospect was after so many dedicated years, it didn't feel right. We both had a sick feeling about the whole situation. Everything had fallen so perfectly into place in Charlotte and here we were going against what seemed the best energy we had going for our entire family.
Asleep on one of our runs while discussing our future

It took less than an hour, once we were honest about it all, to email everyone in hopes that 24 hours had not ruined what we had established here in Charlotte.

Luckily no damage was done, other than us looking a little bi-polar. All parties were happy to take us back and all funding was still in place!!

I wish a sad and heart wrenching fair well to my love, veterinary medicine. She doesn't hold a shadow to my beautiful family, my love for academia and the mystery science is sure to offer me for the rest of my life.

On a lighter note, disc golf is awesome!
