Heading towards 5 weeks and maybe a routine

Thanks to my awesome friend kelly loaning me her breast pump, I've been able to start pumping, making it possible for other people to feed Silas..i.e. daddy. It does make me feel like a cow. But I'll take feeling like a cow if it means 11 feedings in a day instead of 12! High maintenance little boy!

We went on our first date this last weekend!! It was amazing. It was even more amazing because I could have a glass of wine and not feel guilty. First full glass of alcohol in 10 1/2 months. I'm a cheap date right now, thats all I'm saying. Silas took his first bottle from his Nana on that Saturday and it went beautifully.

Silas has officially made it 1 month in this world and it happened to be 70 degrees and sunny the day he turned a month so I took him out into the woods. He didn't seem to notice =) Don't worry, I had him covered from the sun unless I was taking a picture. I think I was too tired to give a full smile here.

Andrew dressed Silas up in his rocker clothes and we went out to Concord where we proceeded to play  Chinese fire drill exchanging drivers as each of us ran into a store. Silas wasn't all that tired so the minute the car stopped he started crying ,and not the type of crying that gentle swaying would alleviate. The minute the car moved however, that boy was out like a light. Magic!

We found a bunch of pictures on our  old cellphones including these adorable puppy pictures! These are the only pics that could come close to rivaling how cute our son is.

Almost 1 month old!

Lets see....I suppose I've drug my feet on updating the blog because the most exciting thing that has happened is Silas cooing for the first time a few days ago...that and I sometimes get to take a shower when I trick him into sleeping long enough!

Where's the baby?
We have been on a steep learning curve. Newborn care doesn't come naturally! We've trimmed his little nails twice now and had one snafu in which we got his little finger. Bathing has also been more complex than originally thought. We have it nailed down now. There are no tears shed during bath time anymore....just pee.

After a few weeks we have finally minimized the number of onesies that are peed through! We've also improved on limiting the number of golden showers that hit walls, mirrors, him and ourselves. He's a wild boy!

A very serious diaper exchange

Andrew has been working hard with his classes but he definitely gets time with his boy and sometimes, thats exactly what Silas needs.

Consoling that little boy at night is a two man team effort most of the time. Once he's asleep though we're good for a few hours at a time generally.

Despite the cold weather I have been making attempts to walk with Silas. I figured out a better way to carry him for said walks.  I then cover him with a blanket, he naps and I find my sanity through getting outside for 30 minutes. The dogs get to go out during these walks too and get to go play in the run for a few hours!

We received Silas's baby photos so I'll start posting pictures throughout the blog for everyone. They are adorable! The best part is I know when he's older, he will just love that his naked butt is in all of these shots.

We plan on giving Dr. Morris ( the Dr. who delivered Silas) a copy of the picture with him on the snowboard and Dr. Arronte the picture of him with the teddy bear hat on at my 6 week check up. Silas has a check up on February 4th for his one month visit.

2 weeks old and one day closer to sleep

Silas had a few new experiences this week. This unseasonably warm weather let us take him on a hike in the woods. I swaddled him up with a Moby wrap and Andrew took the dogs. He slept the entire time and a little sun was probably great for him. The dogs needed that walk. They really have been a little neglected since the baby has come home.

The little man took a pacifier for the first time this week. He's pretty picky about when he will take it but with a little convincing he realizes its just the ticket.

Silas also had his free newborn pictures taken on Saturday by Michelle Neira. He slept through half of it and the rest they put him in a little heat coma where he just laid there watching as they manipulated his little body. I was amazed how they just moved him around as he watched!

Healthy Baby!

Silas had his first pediatrician appointment on January 4th.  Dr.  Wiese examined all of his little parts and said he is very healthy. He even gained 1 oz back from when we had left the hospital the previous day! So on Friday he weighed 7 lb 2 oz. She is a board certified lactation consultant as well. When she examined Silas she confirmed he was tongue tied. An easily fixed condition that will make my and his life easier while feeding. I went ahead and scheduled to have a meeting with a lactation consultant associated with the pediatric practice and to tentatively have the frenulum of his tongue cut. I know that sounds kind of awful but it turns out its a very quick and painless procedure where he can feed immediately afterwords.

Fast forward to Thursday, January 10th...

I met with the lactation consultant and I can't believe it but Silas had gained a POUND! since Friday.  He's 8 lbs now! They had to weigh him twice because they couldn't believe it. So needless to say he is doing fantastic on a newborn scale. They only have a few functions: eat, sleep, pee, poop and be adorable. The doctor came in and cut his frenulum in less than ten minutes. The lactation consultant said he just laid there and looked at her, she was amazed at what a good baby he was. Me too! He has some lungs on him when he's not sure he likes something.

Overall, Silas has adjusted well to being out in the world. He likes car rides and is generally a content baby as long as Andrew and I can read his little coos and grunts. We love him so much!

Our New Years Baby Has Arrived!!

Sorry for the delay in updating the blog! Our little boy, Silas Coady Young, arrived at 12:10am on New Years Day weighing 7 lbs 4 oz and measuring 20.5 inches. He is the most beautiful and wonderful thing that has ever happened in our lives!

Andrew was pivotal during the entire labor process and was able to cut the umbilical chord when our son arrived. He has been the most amazing husband, best friend and father. Labor is no joke! Good thing time allows us to forget and gives us something so miraculous. Otherwise I can't imagine being tricked into going through it again. Dr. Chris Morris ended up delivering Silas instead of Dr. Arronte.

As it turns out he was the first baby born in Charlotte, NC for the New Year. So the next day we were bombarded by reporters from many different papers and tv stations. The hospital gave us a gift basket  and we are receiving a free newborn photography session allllll because I timed that labor so well...hahaha. Thats right, I totally planned that one.

This baby got to meet a majority of his close family within the first 48 hours of his life. The support Andrew, Silas and I have from our loved ones is deep and comforting. Thank you to everyone that made the trek to the hospital and I know those of you that couldn't make it will definitely see him soon! He will be more awake for you then anyway =).

Congratulations Little Boy!! We're So Happy You Are Finally Here!!!
